Helen is an experienced non-executive director with core skills in commercial strategy, finance, IT and analytics. Helen’s experiences in senior executive roles at large corporate organisations have provided her with industry experience in tourism, hospitality, gaming, retail and entertainment.
Helen is a fellow of CPA Australia, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and has degrees in Information Systems and Commerce.
Helen is a currently Chair of The Star Sydney and Director of Hydro Tasmania, where she also serves as Chair of their Audit Committee. She is also a Director of Hockey Australia. Helen served as Deputy Chair and non executive director of Tasracing 2016 - 2022.
Helen schooled and grew up in Tasmania and attended university in Hobart. Helen and her family live in Hobart.
Helen was appointed as a Director of Bank of us on 29 October 2019. She is the Chair of the Board Remuneration Committee and Chair of the Board Corporate Governance Committee.
Kathryn McCann
Director (BCom BA)
Kath has Senior Executive experience across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Kath is currently the General Manager Marketing, Public Affairs and Social Impact for the Tasmanian Football Club and is also Chair of Brand Tasmania. Previously Kath was working in the not-for-profit sector as the Chief Operating Officer at the Beacon Foundation.
Kath grew up and was educated in Tasmania and is a Graduate of the University of Tasmania where she completed her degree in Arts and Commerce with majors in Psychology and Marketing. She was appointed as a Director in November 2021 and is a current member of the Board Corporate Governance Committee and Board Risk Committee.
Robert King
Director (BSc MBA GAICD)
Until April 2017 Mr King was the Chief Executive Officer of Intech Bank and a Group Executive of Bank Australia, one of Australia’s leading mutuals. Over a thirty year career he has worked in senior leadership roles for a range of banking institutions including ME Bank, Citibank, Rothschild and Newcastle Permanent Building Society.
Mr King was appointed as a Director in November 2017. He is a current member of the Board Audit Committee and is Chair of the Board Risk Committee.
Mark Nugent
Director (BCom CPA AICD)
Mr Nugent is Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Services Manager of Fairbrother Pty Ltd. He is a Director of Fairbrother Pty Ltd, a Director of Degree C Pty Ltd and a Board Member of OzHelp Tasmania. He has more than 25 years experience in management, accounting and administration in both the private and public sectors.
Mr Nugent was appointed as a Bank of us Director in February 2012 and is a member of the Board Remuneration Committee and the Board Audit Committee.
Danny McCarthy
Director (BEc FCA)
Mr McCarthy specialises in Audit and Advisory Services, with over 30 years experience as a company auditor. He was a Partner of WLF Accounting and Advisory from 1989 until December 2022. He is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Mr McCarthy was appointed as a Bank of us Director in October 2023 and is a member of the Board Risk Committee and Chair of the Board Audit Committee.
Laura McBain
Director (BCom)
Laura is an experienced CEO, Managing Director and Non-Executive Director with extensive leadership experience across listed companies, infrastructure and customer-focused brands.
She has held senior executive and board roles with organisations including Bellamy’s Australia, Lark Distilling Co., Tasmanian Irrigation, and Capitol Health.
Her governance experience spans audit and risk, people and culture, and strategic transformation
A Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year award recipient, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce.
Laura grew up and is based in Tasmania, where she continues to support the growth of local industries and international trade connections.
Laura was appointed as a Director of Bank of us in October 2025 and is a member of the Board Risk Committee and the Board Audit Committee.
Paul Ranson
Chief Executive Officer
Paul joined Bank of us as Chief Executive Officer in 2005 and has been responsible for laying the foundations for the growth and development of the company. Prior to joining Bank of us, Paul had 25 years’ experience in local government including 18 years’ combined experience as General Manager at Meander Valley and West Tamar Councils.
Paul is a Director (Chair) of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce & Industry and is a past President of the Launceston Chamber of Commerce and Local Government Managers Australia (Tasmania Division). He is a life member of Local Government Managers Australia and a Fellow and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Matt Ciezki
Chief Financial Officer
Matt joined Bank of us in 2017 and has held various roles in Treasury and Finance, most recently as Finance Manager.
Born and raised in Launceston, Matt has a Bachelor of Business from UTAS and is a Chartered Accountant. He has worked in accounting practice and industry in Tasmania.
Jill Jetson-Shumbusho
Chief Customer & People Officer
Jill joined Bank of us in early 2017, after the decision had been made to transition to a Customer Owned Bank. Jill’s most recent banking roles as Head of Sales & Distribution – QT Mutual Bank 2014-16; Chief Operating Officer & Head of Member Services P&N (Mutual) Bank 2010-14; and Regional General Manager – Retail & Business Banking – Westpac 2009-10, have already seen her actively involved in the transition from a mutual to a bank.
Having commenced her banking career working for Trust Bank and its various iterations in Tasmania over a 10 year period, Jill also understands the nuances of the Tasmanian market. Jill has also held a number of other banking and corporate sector management roles including with CBA in Sydney and News Ltd.
Nick Bird
Chief Information Officer
Nick joined Bank of us as CIO in January 2022 and leads the teams responsible for technology, operations, business continuity, and portfolio management, ensuring the bank's technology platforms remain stable, secure, and cater for the ever-increasing customer demand for ‘hi-tech’ banking.
Nick brings over 20 years of banking experience, having had a long and varied career at Westpac, holding numerous senior management roles including Head of Technology - Global Transaction Services & Digital, as well as other technology and program management focused positions.
Tash Whish-Wilson
Chief Risk Officer
Tash started with Bank of us in 2015 and is responsible for the Compliance and Risk Management functions for the company. Tash attends all Board Risk and Audit Committee meetings, chairs the management Operational Risk Committee, and also acts as the AML/CTF Compliance Officer. She is the primary contact for disputes lodged through the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
With more than 20 years’ experience in banking and financial services Nat held several Executive and Senior Management roles during her 16 years at MyState Limited and antecedents, where she was CRO from 2011 to 2015, Senior Manager Risk from 2010 to 2011 and Group Manager Operational Risk for MyState Financial from 2007 to 2010.
Tash was also employed as a Police Officer at Tasmania Police from 1988 to 1998 and has extensive experience in the Forensic and Criminal Investigation fields.
