Expert panel aims to provide women with the keys to financial security
An event organised to inspire women to be financially secure has attracted a capacity crowd.
The panel discussion on Friday, May 10, has been organised by the Tasmanian division of Chief Executive Women (CEW) – the pre-eminent organisation of women leaders empowering all women – and made possible through support from Tasmanian-grown, customer-owned Bank of us.
CEW Tasmanian Chair Katie Cooper said financial literacy and security went hand-in-hand, and encouraged women to be actively involved in planning for the future.
“While financial literacy and security are crucial for everyone, there are life events, experiences and challenges which remain distinctive across women’s lives,” Ms Cooper said.
“Overall, women still carry the lion’s share of family caring responsibilities, the gender pay gap is at play across the workforce and these sorts of things have a direct bearing on how superannuation tracks over time.”
The breakfast will feature a panel of experts, each with extensive experience in different parts of the finance sector. They are:
- Naomi Edwards, an actuary, who has worked in the Superannuation industry for nearly 40 years, most recently as Chair of Spirit Super from 2011 to 2022.
- Nicole Florisson, a highly regarded Certified Financial Planner, who has operated her own practice for the past 13 years.
- Jill Jetson-Shumbusho, who has worked in senior and executive roles in banking for 40 years. She is currently the Chief Customer and People Officer at Bank of us.
Ms Jetson-Shumbusho said strong interest in the event was no surprise, given how topical financial literacy was in the community.
“From the challenge posed to people by housing affordability to the increasing sophistication of investment scams, people have to be more engaged and on guard than ever,” Ms Jetson-Shumbusho said.
“We are very aware of that both from a customer and community perspective, so have housing and financial security at the centre of how we think as a Bank.”
