Bank of us leads Tasmania with eco credit & debit cards
Tasmanians can now choose Visa Debit and Credit cards with a lighter environmental footprint as Tasmania’s only customer owned bank, Bank of us, begins issuing new cards from today.
The new cards are made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) rather than traditional PVC plastic. PLA is material comprised of fermented plant starch like renewable sugar cane and cornstarch. The card's microchip, magnetic strip and signature panel are not made from PLA.
Bank of us CEO, Paul Ranson said the new cards were part of the bank’s strategic priority to reduce its environmental impact, “Tasmanians deserve the opportunity to bank with a sustainable bank, its important to us that we are actively working to minimise our carbon footprint”.
The cards’ new design also includes raised dots to assist vision impaired users and are digitally printed to avoid debossing of important details.
The cards will be issued to new customers and rolled out as replacement cards for existing customers.
