“…the first thing I noticed at Bank of us is there is so much support…”

One of our goals at Bank of us is to help Tasmanians be in the best possible shape financially, wherever they are in life.
Bank Customer Experience Consultant Fiona Rubens divides her time between that and getting people into the best possible shape physically too.
“I was training to be a group fitness instructor and working in a gym when COVID hit,” she says with a smile.
“So, I took the classes outside into parks. And then winter hit!”
It had been a tumultuous time for Fiona when someone put her name forward as a great candidate at Bank of us, where she now works from the Wynyard store on Tasmania’s beautiful North-West.
It marked a return to banking, having started in her first job at Savings Bank of Tasmania on Tasmania’s West Coast.
“It’s been a challenge – there is a lot to take in – but the first thing I noticed at Bank of us is there is so much support,” Fiona said.
Over time, Fiona’s fitness work has come to focus on older Tasmanians, catering to their distinct needs.
She sees parallels with this in her role at the Bank.
“The most important aspect of my role is delivering on our customers’ experience,”
“We have a lot of older customers and you can see how vulnerable they are.
“We’re always on the look out to make sure they are getting the right help, that their products are right for them and for red flags around scams.”
Wynyard Store Customer Experience Leader Emma Birchall said Fiona had made a big difference in the team since she started in November 2023.
“Fiona is part of the community and she has a real care for people,” she said. “Fiona was initially referred to us by someone who thought she’d be a great fit at Bank of us and she has been. We get the best ones that way.”
