Let’s face it, living is expensive. And sometimes it feels like no matter how much we cut back, we still can’t save enough. But don’t worry, there are still some sneaky ways to save money every month without giving up all the fun things in life. All you need to do is ask yourself these five questions at the end of each month and see where you can make some changes.

1. Am I wasting money on fees or fines?

Life is hectic and sometimes we forget things, like setting the parking app or paying bills on time. But these little mistakes can cost us big time in fees or fines. And that’s money we could be spending on something else. So, check your statements and receipts and see if you can avoid or reduce these charges. Sometimes, a simple phone call or email can get you a refund or a waiver.

    2. Am I using those memberships?

We all want to be fit, healthy, and well-connected. That’s why we sign up for gyms, clubs, and associations. But are we really using them? Or are they just collecting dust and draining our bank accounts? If you haven’t used a membership in a while, maybe it’s time to cancel it. And if you still want to keep it, maybe you can negotiate a better deal. You never know until you ask.

      3. How do I get from A to B?

Getting around can be costly, especially if you own a car. Between petrol, parking, insurance, and maintenance, driving can eat up a big chunk of your budget. So why not try some cheaper and greener alternatives? Like public transport, cycling, or walking. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also get some exercise and reduce your carbon footprint.

      4. Can I cut back on food and drink expenses?

We all love to eat and drink, but sometimes we go overboard. Especially when it comes to eating out and ordering in. These treats can add up quickly and blow our budget out of the water. So how about setting a limit on how much we spend on non-grocery foods each month? And sticking to it. We can still enjoy ourselves, but in moderation.

      5. What’s one thing that doesn’t need to be there?

Sometimes we buy things we don’t really need or use. Things that make us feel good in the moment, but not so much later on. Things like hair and beauty treatments, cleaning services, and clothes and shoes. These are not essentials but wants. And sometimes we can do without them or find cheaper alternatives.

So each month, look for one thing that you can cut out or cut down on your spending. It may not seem like much, but over time it can make a big difference.
